  • Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration - (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation and to improve the lives of individuals living with mental and substance use disorders, and their families.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous - (A.A.) is a fellowship of people who come together to solve their drinking problem. It doesn’t cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem. A.A.’s primary purpose is to help alcoholics to achieve sobriety. ​Everything AA is a useful mobile app with a worldwide meeting finder and other tools. 

​

  • Al-Anon - A mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help. Al-Anon Family Groups is a mobile app to connect with other members and find online meetings.

  • Narcotics Anonymous - (NA) offers recovery from the effects of addiction through working a twelve-step program, including regular attendance at group meetings. The group atmosphere provides help from peers and offers an ongoing support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. NA’s approach makes no distinction between drugs including alcohol. Membership is free, and NA has no affiliation with any organizations outside of NA including governments, religions, law enforcement groups, or medical and psychiatric associations. NA Meeting Search is a mobile app to help find meetings anywhere in the world with daily meditations.

  • Suicide & Crisis Lifeline - The 988 Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States. Dial 988.

  • Veterans Crisis Line - The Veterans Crisis Line provides 24/7 free, confidential crisis support for Veterans and their loved ones. You don't have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to call. Dial 988 then press 1 or Text 838255.

STATE & FEDERAL ASSISTANCE:

​

  • The Family & Medical Leave Act - (FMLA) entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.

​

  • State Disability Insurance - The California State Disability Insurance (SDI) program provides short-term Disability Insurance (DI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) wage benefits to eligible workers who need time off work. You may be eligible for DI if you are unable to work due to non-work-related illness or injury. You may be eligible for PFL to care for a seriously ill family member. (As of January 2023, only five states offer short-term or temporary disability benefits: California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island)

  • Social Security Disability Insurance - Managed by the Social Security Administration, designed to provide income supplements to people who are physically restricted in their ability to be employed because of a notable disability, usually a physical disability. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs provide assistance to people who meet their requirements for disability. The program operates through a volunteer network of 15,000 dentists and 3,400 dental labs across the United States.
